Agreed - this is really important. Stock is essentially a GIK. The entry and receipt (if generated) should have a descriptor field listing the stock, # of shares, and date it left the donor's account - as well as the high, low, and average trading price for that date, if you really want to make the transaction complete and consistent.

This would not be useful for tax reporting. You should have 3 specific data points, # of shares, value of shares on donation date, donation received date.
