Prevent duplicate contacts based on email address alone
Julius Pelegrino
When a supporter signs up using an email address that already exists in the CRM, Givebutter should prevent a new contact from being created even if the name is different. Currently, contact matching requires both a matching name and a matching email or phone number, which causes duplicate contacts when family members or household members sign up using the same email with different names. Organizations that primarily communicate via email find it unhelpful to have multiple contacts sharing the same email address.

every October my contacts database fills up with over 1,000 duplicates because people purchase multiple event tickets with a single email address and multiple names. I still haven't cleaned up from last October.

This is a HUGE problem for us...we have dozens of contacts with a family member's email which isn't their own. This may not be the best way to fix it, but it needs to be fixed. There should be an email type for "Family member" or "Other" or SOMETHING that lets us keep the names of all the family members but does not use someone else's email address. And when a person buys tickets for friends or family, GB should ask if they are in the same household and record it as such. Or record the friendship as a relationship. Please attend to this.
